These are the small RF connectors used on the British made RACAL receivers.
A common example of these connectors are the two coaxial leads between the RA.17 receiver and the RA.137 adapter.
RACAL changed these connectors to the more common BNC style connectors for the US market.
These coaxial connectors are used to connect to the aerial and, for example, the 100 kc/s i.f. outputs of the RA.17
receiver. Again, they can be found on the British made RACAL receivers. The receivers for the North-American market
has the SO-239 socket installed and the associated PL-259 plug is a very common connector.
This British connector is called "Burndept", and is available in a straight and 90" angled version.
This strange connector is used on the MA.152 Standing-Wave Ratio Indicator Unit. They are called PET plugs, and you
need two of these, one for the input and one for the output signal to the VSWR unit. They are difficult to get, so
a modification of the MA.152 unit to, say, N connectors is an option to consider.
Of course, this means that the
unit is no longer original, but you can at least use the unit. Keep the two chassis parts! You never know
when you find a pair of PET plugs ...

It looks like the PL-259 plug, but has two center pins.
BNC connectors - 50 Ohm vs. 75 Ohm

Physical differences - In contrast to the 50 Ohm plug, the 75 Ohm plug does not have extended dielectric around its outer spring fingers. The air has a higher impedance constant than solid dielectric material. Also, the 75 Ohm plug’s center pin has the same diameter in the rear area (where the pin is crimped) as in the front mating interface area. The 50 Ohm plug’s center pin has a thicker diameter in the rear area where it is crimped. Furthermore, the 75 Ohm connector’s dielectric is made of Teflon because of its higher impedance properties than Delrin, which is typically used in 50 Ohm connectors.
Both pins of 50 Ohm and 75 Ohm plugs have the same diameter in the mating area. |
